Lewis University Launches Online Criminal/Social Justice Master’s Degree
Romeoville, IL (PRWEB) August 01, 2011
In response to the ever-evolving role of law enforcement and public safety personnel and the surging demand for leaders and administrators trained to preserve social justice and safeguard human rights, Lewis University is now offering its popular Criminal/Social Justice master’s degree program entirely online.
The Master of Science in Criminal/Social Justice (MSCSJ) degree has been available from Lewis University’s Chicago-area campus for more than 30 years, making it one of the first degree programs in the nation to combine advanced criminal justice administration education with probing analysis of the complex ethical and social issues faced by criminal justice practitioners on a daily basis. With the degree now online, working professionals from anywhere in the United States and around the world can take advantage of this preeminent program to enhance social justice in their own communities and improve their career prospects through education.
“In the 30 years since we began offering this program at Lewis University, it has become commonplace to see criminal justice professionals as not only the front-line defenders of law and order, but also as our nation’s stewards of social equality, human rights and social justice,” says Dr. Calvin Edwards, chair and professor of Lewis’ Department of Justice, Law and Public Safety Studies. “This duty has been evolving steadily for decades. By making the Master of Science in Criminal/Social Justice degree available online, a new, much larger generation of law enforcement and public safety leaders can build their careers on a foundation of skills that covers both the latest criminal justice concepts and the socially relevant issues of ethics and equality that are so important today.”
The two-year, online Criminal/Social Justice master’s degree program also gives students the option to customize their studies with a choice of two tracks tailor-made for the modern career opportunities available to leaders in Criminal/Social Justice. The Homeland Security track focuses on disaster response and prevention strategies at the local, state and federal level. Students who choose this track will earn the Homeland Security concentration and receive advanced homeland security education rarely available outside federal law enforcement and emergency response agencies. Students will then be uniquely positioned to explore leadership opportunities at agencies such as the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, CIA, as well as local and state law enforcement departments.
The other track option, the Custom Criminal/Social Justice track, gives Lewis University MSCSJ students an opportunity to customize the master’s degree experience to their individual interests and career goals. Students can select courses from a full roster of electives and familiarize themselves with topics such as juvenile justice, white collar crime, corrections, rehabilitation and more.
“Because of this merging of criminal and social justice, the duties of those who work in law enforcement and public safety have become so varied and so universally important,” says Edwards. “That means the career opportunities for our graduates are also very diverse and growing quickly, so our students demand maximum flexibility and convenience from their education. That’s exactly what we can deliver with the online Master of Science in Criminal/Social Justice from Lewis University.”
Enrollment for the online Master of Science in Criminal/Social Justice at Lewis University is now open with classes beginning January 2012. For more information, go to http://www.lewisuniversityonline.com, or call (866) 967-7046.
